Composer/flutist Michael Colquhoun is currently active as a solo recitalist, as director of his genre-bending performing group The MC Band and his Latin Jazz/Salsa group, Los Caribes, as president of the composers Alliance of Buffalo, and in numerous arts-in-education programs.

He has earned a PhD in Music Composition from the State University of New York at Buffalo where he studied flute with Robert Dick and Cheryl Gobbetti, and composition with Morton Feldman, Lejaren Hiller, and Leo Smit. His works have been published by McGinnis and Marx Music Publishers and A.M. Percussion Publications, and performed by the Maelstorm Percussions Ensemble, the Schanzer/Speach Duo, the Talking Drums, the New Jazz Orchestra of Buffalo, the Buried Treasures Ensemble, the Cathedral Brass, the New Music Consort, and the East Buffalo Media Association.

Colquhoun has produced or co-produced more than one hundred concerts in the past twelve years, and hsas conducted residencies totalling over two hundred days. His compositions draw upon both the Classical and Jazz traditions, and often involve a mixture of composed and imporvised elements working together to produce a coherent whole.

Colquhoun is available for performances with his performing groups, for recitals of his own and others' contemporary works, and for workshops in modern flute performance techniques, imporvistaion and composition, and world/ethnic musics.
