Jindrich Feld was born on 19 Februrary 1925 in
Prague. Born into a musical family, his father taught violin at the Academy
of Music and Dramatic Art (AMU), and taught Feld the violin and viola, instruments
which he played in the orchestras of the capital until the end of his studies.
He studied composition with Emil Hlobil at the Prague Conservatory from 1945-48,
then with Jaroslav Rídky at the Academy of Music (1948-52). At the same
time, he studied musicology and the aesthetics of music in the Arts Department
of the University Charles IV, and passed his degree brilliantly.
