

Mary Karen Clardy, professor of flute at theUniversity of North Texas College of Music, appears throughout the United States, Great Britain, Europe, And the Far East as soloist, chamber artist, and teacher. She is resident alto flutist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and also performs as a member of the orchestra on flute and piccolo. Recorded at the British Broadcasting Corportation's London studios, her recital of American music for flute and piano was broadcast on the BBC's Radio 3, and she has also appeared in London for the British Flute Society's 1991, 1992, and 1995 International Conventions. As a frequent performer for the National Flute Association, appearances include conventions in New Orleans, San Diego, St. Louis, Denver, Seattle, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Boston, and Orlando. Clardy regularly performs as a chamber artist, including groups such as Houston's Da Camera Society, the Dallas Bach Society, Richardson Chamber Music Society, Forth Worth Chamber Music Society, Voices of Change, and at the Dallas Museum of Art.
Renowned as a teacher, Dr. Clardy regularly gives masterclasses at home and abroad, including the Instituto Musicale L. Boccherini and the Accademia Musicali di Pescara in Italy; London's Royal College of Music and the Guildhall School; and Oberlin College, New England Conservatory, Manhattan School of Music and the Uniiversity of Southern California. By invitation of the Ministry of Culture, she taught in the 1986 and 1987 Summer Music Institutes in Taiwan, and she was featured as a master teacher for the NFA's convention in San Diego.
Dr. Clardy has recorded for the Dorian, Pro Arte, Folkways, Centaur, and Klavier record labels and has been heard on the BBC, National Public Radio and British Forces Radio. She serves as Consulting Editor for Flute Talk magazine, and is the author of the best-selling book Flute Fundamentals (European American Music Corporation, EA 730).
