

Jürgen Franz grew up in Rödermark near Frankfurt, Germany. Franz got his first lessons at the age of 12. 1984 he was a "young-student" in the Dr.Hoch´s Conservatory Frankfurt and 1987, started his studies at the "Musikhochschule Frankfurt". 1990 he went to Stuttgart where he studied with Jean Claude Gérard.
Further studies brought him to Maxence Larrieu and James Galway who had a great influence on Jürgen Franz. 1993 Jürgen Franz became a member of the Bielefeld Philharmonic Orchestra and from 1997 - 2000 he was first flute in the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra. Since August 2000 he has been a member of the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg with such conductors as Christoph Eschenbach, Günter Wand, Kent Nagano etc. Franz plays also Solo flute as a guest in the philharmonic orchetsra from " La Scala di Milano" with conductors such as M. Rostropowitsch and Ricardo Muti.

He has been a guest in CD and radio productions and as a soloist he has toured through Germany, France, the USA and Switzerland. 1998 he played a concert with Maxence Larrieu and one year later he was a guest at the European flute festival. He has played all sorts of solo and chamber music literature mostly with guitar, piano, organ, strings and orchestra. As a teacher Jürgen Franz has held masterclasses in USA and every year he is the artistic leader (masterclasses, concerts) from the "Seligenstädter Flötentage" in Germany. Franz plays on a 14k gold handmade flute by Jonathon Landell.
