Lars Asbjørnsen is a native of Trondheim, Norway. He studied the flute in Oslo, Paris and at the "Folkwanghochschule" of Essen, Germany.

After serving as principal flutist with the City Orchestra of Ulm, Germany, he went on to a similar position with the Dutch Philharmonic Orchestra in Amsterdam, before leaving in 1990 to concentrate on chamber music and solo work.

As a soloist, Lars Asbjørnsen has played in almost all European countries, Japan and the United States, including concerto appearances with prestigious chamber orchestras. He performs at festivals for classical and contemporary music and has had several pieces composed forhim.

Lars Asbjørnsen is much sought after as a teacher, frequently giving masterclasses at home and abroad. He lives in Weimar, Germany and is on the faculty of the Wiesbaden Academy of Music.
