Göran Marcusson

Dear Webvisitor,

Welcome to my little page in cyberspace. If you are looking for information about the Nordic Flute summer course 17-24 August 2003 you will find some down this page. If you have more questions, or even want to participate, please send a mail to flute@glocalnet.net . If you want to have a quick look at some pictures and see what it looks like at the course, please go to NFP2002 .

This year I will sadly not come to the Cincinnati Flute Syposium in June. Brad Garner and I will work together at Wildacres Flute Retreat together with a lot of other great musicians. On the way to Wildacres I will stop in Ann-Arbor at the University and do some flutedays on the "Anatomy of sound" with Amy Porter and Alexa Still.

I will be in Newport for the great Music Festival, http://www.newportmusic.org/ , in July. On the program this year is a very interesting evening concert with a chamber version of the Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto. On the harp will be the great Rhode Island harpist Hyunjong Choi. Tons of more very good music, sometimes almost unknown, will be performed during the two weeks.

My plans for the summer also includes the NFA Convention in Las Vegas. More about that later when we know the program. Could be very interesting.......................

If you come to Sweden and visit Göteborg, maybe you will be able to listen to my ensemble GöteborgsMusiken ( http://www.goteborgsmusiken.nu/ ) at our little and charming concert hall, Kronhuset.

Please do not hesitate to drop me a line.

Regards,
Göran

Nordic Flute Summer Class,

Bjertorp Sweden 17-24 August 2003

The versatile Swedish fluteplayer Göran Marcusson had his first flute lessons in Södertälje, Sweden. In 1992 he received his soloists diploma after studying with professor Gerhard Schaub at University of Gothenburg. The same year he was awarded a handmade flute of Waterford Crystal for his outstanding performance in the masterclass of James Galway, who brought him as a duopartner for a performance on television.

In 1987 he was the first prize winner of the National Flute Association, USA, Young Artist Competition, wich was later followed by prizes in Vienna Music Competition 1992, Bodensee Music Competition 1991 and an award at the Crusellweek in Finland 1991. This has made him a frequent guest at colleges, universities, flutesymposiums and festivals around the world, very often including popular masterclasses with his Swedish music in focus.

The interest he takes in Swedish music is well documented in his recordings "The Swedish Romantic Flute" with the strings of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, and "The Nordic Flute" with Camerata Roman. With his duo partner Joakim Kallhed he has recorded classical flute repertoire and "American Sonatas" . His latest CD "Reflective Flute" with GöteborgsMusiken includes both light classical music and jazz.

Göran Marcusson has played principal flute with The Gothenburg Opera, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and London Symphony Orchestra. He is currently playing with GöteborgsMusiken Chamber Orchestra in Sweden. Places he has visited as a soloist includes Lima, Peru, Mexico City, Chicago, Carnegie Hall, New York and Wigmore Hall, London. Since 1997 he is every year among the family of artists in the Newport Music Festival in USA.
