Principal Flutist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since 1977, Michael Parloff is one of New York City's most versatile and sought-after musicians. As recitalist and concerto soloist, he appears regularly throughout North America and Japan. Parloff is much in demand as a chamber musician, making frequent appearances with the Chamber Society of Lincoln Center, Music from Marlboro, and Bargemusic. He is the director of a series of New York City chamber concerts featuring James Levine and members of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
Highly respected as a teacher, Parloff has been invited to present masterclasses at major conservatories and university music schools in the US and abroad. He has been a member of the flute faculty at the Manhattan School of Music since 1985.

During the summers, he has been principal flutist, soloist, and faculty member at a variety of music festivals, including Marlboro, Waterloo, Grand Tetons, Monadnock, Chautauqua, and the Crested Butte.
Parloff has recorded extensively with the Netropolitan Opera for Deutsche Grammophon, Sony Classical, London, and Philips. His solo CD, The Flute Album, released in 1993 on E.S.SAY, surveys 200 years of classic repertoire for the instrument.
