Clare Southworth enjoys a successful and varied career as performer, teacher, and author. She is a flutist acclaimed for her sensitivity, musicianship, and captiviating performances. Her studies were completed at the Royal Northern College of Music, and she went on to win a number of prizes both in England and abroad, including the First Prize of America's National Flute Association Competition.
Concerts have taken Southworth to the US, Japan and Europe, and she has frequently recorded for radio and television. She was formerly Principal Flute with Aquarius, has freelanced with many of the leading orchestras, and now concentrates on solo and chamber music, including the Pembridge Ensemble. She can be heard on two flute and piano recordings, Sonatas and Classic Touch.
Southworth is recognized as one of the UK's leading flute teachers, and is Professor of Flute at the Royal Northern College of Music. Her many years of experience have included teaching in two of the UK's principal specialist schools, International Summer Schools, and classes for the British, German, and American Flute Societies. She is Director of Lakeland Flutes, founder member of the Just Flutes Summer School at Woldingham, and author of Flute Aerobics, Sequentials and Light Aerobics.
Southworth has recorded two acclaimed CD's, "Sonatas" and "Classic Touch" for flute and piano. She has also made recordings as part of the chamber ensembles Aquarius, Pembridge and Bamboozle, plus numerous orchestral performances. Her summer school, "Just Flutes" at Woldingham, has become one of the most successful courses in the U.K., and her book publications "Flute Aerobics", "Light Aerobics" and "Sequentials" are best sellers. In addition, she has formed England's first professional flute choir, "London Flutes".
