2006 RULES


To be eligible, applicant must be 18, and no older than 30, on March 24, 2006. Previous Mid-South first prize winners are ineligible.Three finalists will be selected on the basis of recorded auditions to compete in the live final round at the Flute Festival Mid-South 2006 in Murfreesboro, TN. The finalists will perform in the closing gala recital playing one of the three final audition pieces.


Each entrant will record three pieces from the required list (attached and/or on web site), one from group A, one from group B, and one from group C. Pieces that require accompaniment must be recorded with accompaniment. Smartmusic© may be used for accompaniment in the recorded round if desired. TWO recorded copies of the selected pieces must be in the hands of the competition chair NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 1ST, 2005, along with completed application form and fees. The first week of January the finalists will be notified and be assigned three pieces for the final live round of the competition.


The recorded audition must be on a CD disk (preferred) or a new, high quality cassette tape. Recordings must be unedited. The recording may include studio as well as concert performances as long as no editing has occurred. The recording device may be stopped between movements in multi-movement works. Recording found to have been edited will result in the applicant's disqualification. There may by NO IDENTIFICATION on the recording or box and NO SPEAKING. The applicant's name, address, and competition entered must appear ONLY on the outer package. Recordings will be coded and sent to the appropriate judging committee with only the code number identification. Failure to follow these requirements will result in disqualification.
