SCHEDULE OF EVENTS*

Delta State University will be hosting the 1998 Flute Festival Mid-South on March 20 and 21. The festival will offer various activities of interest to flutists of all ages and levels, including students, amateurs, and professionals. All activities will be held at the university, in the Music Building and the Bologna Performing Arts Center(BPAC).

FESTIVAL COMPETITIONS

TheMid South Flute Society is sponsoring three competitions to select outstanding flutists to perform at the Third Annual Flute Festival Mid South. The competitions are the Young Artist Competition for flutists 18-30 years of age, the High School Masterclass Competition for students (grades 9-12), and new this year, is the Junior High Ensemble Masterclass Competition, for students in grades 6-8.

The semifinal and concert pieces are the same, and each winner will play one of these pieces in the closing recital.

REMEMBER:Tapes must be postmarked by January 23, 1998, and mailed with completed application form and $25 fee to:

1998 HIGH SCHOOL MASTERCLASS

The Masterclass Performers Competition selects high school students to perform in a Masterclass at FFMS, March 21, 1998. The competition is open to any flutist who is in grades 9-12. The application fee is $15.00 which includes membership dues.

Taped audition repertoire: Faure Morceau de Concours, any edition Hindemith Achte Stücke, Movements I and IVWinners should also be prepared to perform the following pieces at FFMS. 1998 Jr. HIGH SCHOOL ENSEMBLE MASTERCLASS

The Jr. High Ensemble Masterclass Performers Competition selects junior high school students to perform in a Masterclass at FFMS, March 21, 1998. Individual tapes are required of entrants, and the winners will perform in an ensemble at the festival, receiving their music in advance. The competition is open to any flutist who is in grades 6-8. The application fee is $15.00 which includes membership dues.

RULES FOR ALL COMPETITIONS

 

The taped audition must be recorded on a new, high quality cassette tape on one side only. Tapes must be unedited. The tape may include studio as well as concert performances as long as no editing has occurred. The recording device may be stopped between movements in multi-movement works. Submissions of tapes found to have been edited will result in the applicant's disqualification. If you use noise reduction processing, use only Dolby B. There must be NO IDENTIFICATION on the tape or box; NO SPEAKING may be recorded. The applicant's name, address, and competition entered must appear ONLY on the outer package. Tapes will be coded and sent to the approprate judging committee with only the code number identification. Tapes become the property of the FFFS and will NOT be returned.
